Would you prefer:
- a fair society and a citizen-led end to the fossil fuel era; or
- continued harm to all humans and the planet, locked in by corporate elites?
That is the question. Wanstead Climate Action invites you to a talk on the climate and ecological crisis and what together we can do about it. This will be in Christ Church Wanstead (in the church) on Christchurch Green from 7pm on Monday 20 March (talk begins 7.15). Please come along and join the discussion. If you can’t make it, please keep reading for how to strengthen climate action.
This event is organised in the lead-up to ‘The Big One’, aiming to draw 100,000 people and diverse groups to gather at the Houses of Parliament from Friday 21 to Monday 24 April 2023. Wanstead Climate Action will be joining in this inclusive citizens’ demonstration in Westminster.
The Earth is already well over half-way to 2 °C of global warming, yet the UK government is still licensing new oil and gas fields and even approving a new coal mine. Inaction and corruption endanger lives, health, land and nature. We can use effective tactics to reinvigorate democracy. Let’s decide together on a fair way to end the fossil fuel era.
You can sign up to ‘The Big One‘ to ‘choose your future’ now via the Extinction Rebellion (XR) site, or learn a bit more about the plans as they evolve https://www.youtube.com/live/FGJoar678eE. We are hoping various large environmental and social justice groups will be participating in the event. If you’re in London, but not Redbridge you can sign up to your XR local group. And do please sign up to Wanstead Climate Action for occasional news of local and national climate campaigns.
The four-day event is aimed directly at politicians in Parliament and government buildings in Westminster, and not intended to disrupt the public (including the London Marathon which is on the Sunday).
If you can help with publicity for either local or national event, or contacting other groups, please let us know (we need ten times more climate action, so ten times more climate activists!). The Christ Church talk is also on Eventbrite and here are the leaflet and poster.
