Election Rebellion, November 2019

Environmental hustings at Wanstead Library, 2019. All the parliamentary candidates represented (Con, LD, Lab, Green) agreed to the pledge.

As part of a wider XR campaign, Wanstead Climate Action pounded the streets of South Woodford, Woodford and Chingford posting leaflets through doors and handing them out at stations. We hoped to convince the public in marginal constituencies to vote for candidates who put the environment at the heart of their policies. We also put posters up in strategic places, and attended a local climate hustings. Here we questioned election candidates and invited them to make a climate pledge, voting in favour of green policies if they get elected.

SUCCESS: Mixed results but Labour’s John Cryer was, as expected, voted in in Wanstead. Ian Duncan Smith held Chingford and Woodford Green.
