Wanstead Climate Action initially formed to attend Extinction Rebellion’s mass climate change protests in central London.
The two huge rebellions saw hundreds of rebels get arrested, a sacrifice they made in order to get our urgent message heard. Although none of WCA were arrested, we joined the two-week demonstrations with marches, road blocking, swarming and peaceful gathering at locations including Trafalgar Square, Westminster, Downing Street, London Bridge and Southwark Bridge, Buckingham Palace and London City Airport. Some of our team also supported out-of-town rebels with sustenance and digs.
SUCCESS: A nationwide climate emergency was announced after the April rebellion.
SUCCESS: A citizen’s assembly (one of XR’s core demands) was announced after the October rebellion.
