- Paul Kaufman was outside the High Court again on Monday, combining the efforts the We Own It campaign, Boycott Thames Water and other water campaigners. Thames Water are still trying to get a £3bn bailout loan towards their eyewatering £18bn debt.
Paul believed chanting out on the street could be heard inside the courtroom and was hopeful that the groundswell of vocal opposition could help influence the Judge not to rubberstamp approval. - Those present at the last meeting discussed Jo Blackman’s participation in it. Most agreed given the often-insurmountable barriers she faces she shows great tactical skill in her attempts to get environmental issues at the front of London Borough of Redbridge decision making. We must continue to show appreciation and support. Action letter of thanks. Kathy
- Sustainable Transport roadshow launch commenced in Redbridge. Marion was in attendance representing WCA. Representatives from City Hall and TFL met with local groups to discuss our hopes and ideas to reduce reliance on cars and improve air quality. Jas Athwal came for the photo opportunities.
- Code of conduct. Discussed briefly and whether there is a need for it. Decided to park it for now
- Climate and Nature Bill. There is obvious disappointment that the Bill has been shelved until 10th July. It is agreed that as a group we can use this delay to collate our individual messages and send them to Calvin Bailey to maintain his continued support. Action Cedric/Kathy
- Repair Café. Next date confirmed as Saturday 12th April 2025, 9.00am til 2.00pm. Many hands needed to make the event as successful as the inaugural one. Action – Karen & Kathy with Lydia. volunteers needed.
- International Women’s day will be celebrated at Wanstead library on Friday 7th March. How do we make our stall appealing and make conversations. Need to upgrade/amend? our leaflets and maybe narrow down/focus the range so as not to overwhelm. Action Climate and Nature Bill leaflets needed Action Kathy/Cedric/Diane/Rosemary and others (please reveal yourselves!)
- Holding environmental film screenings continues to be something which could prove popular within WCA and possibly of interest to locals. Latest venue suggested in terms of capacity and affordability is Wanstead Library. Action Eamon
- Next WCA meeting will be Monday 10th March. Many agree having the Climate Change conversation and not having the answer straight away is a challenge. How do you open up, remain calm, have an answer? Eamon will lead a discussion on the work he has done on “How to talk to people about the climate”
