For many people, signing a petition is the only form of political activism they have time for. Sharing a petition can be a crucial first step in getting people to think about and engage with a vital issue, and in fact give them hope that there are realistic positive changes out there to be made. There is some criticism of ‘clicktivism’ and playing ‘the numbers game’ to show public support. However, even if the thousands of signatures often seem to go ignored, MPs and representatives do listen. Signing and sharing a petition can at least break the climate silence.
