2025-6 Repair Cafés

Following on from the pilot Cafe last October, Christ Church Parish is partnered with Wanstead Climate Action to host four Repair Cafés in Wanstead in 2025. The next is on Saturday 29 November 2025 from 10.30-1pm at Christ Church Hall, Wanstead. Now is the chance to fix clothes and gadgets that have been hanging around while you decide what to do with them. Remember ‘repair’ comes before ‘recycle’! (Except in the dictionary but even there ‘repair’ is before ‘throw away’!)

Our second repair café on 12 April fixed 66 items that people had brought (27 electrical), which is calculated to save 314 kg of waste and 2059 kg of CO₂. These are the results for our October 2025 event:

There’s no need to book, you can just show up at Christ Church Hall any time between 10.30 -12.30pm (events finish at 1pm) ; we have more repairers than for the pilot event in October 2024. However, this is a first-come first-served event and we don’t know how long each repair will take, so we can’t guarantee we will be able to see everyone. To avoid disappointment, show up early! Please remember we only allow electrical repair and up to 2 clothing repairs per household, so that we have a chance at helping as many residents as possible. For health & safety reasons we can’t offer to fix white goods, microwaves or lawnmowers, so please don’t bring them. Small electrical appliances only. We will also have bike MOTs and jewellery repairs available, and general repairs, laptop screen repairs and more.

If you can’t make it to our Repair Café in Wanstead, then there Repair Cafés at Ilford Library delivered by Transition Town Ilford on alternate Saturdays. There are also quarterly Repair Cafés in South Woodford organised by St Mary’s Church and the South Woodford Society and regular ones at the Stone Mini Market in Leytonstone High Road, or Forest Fixers. We’re supporting the Repair and Reuse Declaration.

2026 Wanstead repair café dates: Saturdays 7 March, 9 May, 10.30am-1pm.

We’re also looking for volunteers to help with these events! Do you have skills in repairing items or helping organise events? Perhaps you’re a secret sewing master and can help with repairs to clothing? Or perhaps you have expertise in fixing electrical items, watches or clocks? Even if you don’t have repair skills, we’re looking for other volunteers to help with the general setting up and running of the event on the day. If you’d like to get involved, we would love your help! Please email us at: wansteadrepaircafe@gmail.com

We are a friendly, local group who want to connect with others to raise awareness and to encourage and press Local and Central Government to address the Climate Emergency & at least meet the Paris Climate Agreement targets. Join us to plan and carry out actions to this effect. It would be great to hear your ideas! We also link up with other campaigns and larger organisations like Extinction Rebellion and Divestment groups for their campaigns & events. This blog will include details on current and past campaigns and actions, original articles and blog posts written by group members and much more...happy reading!
