Sir David inspires action not just in the UK, but around the world. Here are a few WCA favourites to motivate climate action.

“We are at a unique stage in our history. Never before have we had such an awareness of what we are doing to the planet, and never before have we had the power to do something about that.”

“We have a finite environment – the planet. Anyone who thinks that you can have infinite growth in a finite environment is either a madman or an economist.”

“The time has come to put aside national ambitions and look for an international ambition of survival. If world leaders don’t change it’s going to sink us in the end”.

Wanstead Climate Action are screening The People’s Emergency Briefing at Wanstead Library on 3 June 2026 at 7pm.

The 50 minute film presents evidence from leading UK experts on climate science, food security, health and economic stability. It is about the direct impact of Climate Change on ordinary life.  Following the film, we will host a structured discussion on what this means locally.  Only last Summer there were wildfires on Wanstead Flats which led to the callout of 70 Firefighters and 10 Fire Engines.

Calvin Bailey MBE, the local MP, has confirmed that he will attend – as well several Councillors and Candidates.  Local residents have booked tickets online.  We also expect faith leaders will join us, as well as members of local Medical Services and Business leaders.

Everyone aged 16 and over is welcome.  The film is for mainstream audiences so feel free to bring a friend!
Entry is free. Please book your ticket here
London Rivers Week
Celebrate London Rivers Week and join Friends of the stunning River Roding on a guided walk along London’s 3rd longest river – from Redbridge to Ray Park and from Ray Park to Debden. The Roding is benefiting from volunteer conservation and restoration work – but there is more to be done, and together we can imagine what more can be achieved in the future.
I’d like to join the Redbridge to Ray Park walk
I’d like to join the Ray Park to Debden walk

Our Power, Our Planet
The recent local elections highlighted how community innovation and local problem solving are important. Here’s some things you could try to make a difference.🌿Sign relevant petitions🌿Join in with rallies and protests🌿Write to your MP about environmental policies🌿Get involved with a local conservation group🌿Make a promise to walk/cycle/bus a little more🌿Get out and connect with nature🌿Raise awareness of your worries with friends and family
May Repair Cafe
The May Repair Cafe was another success.  Our handsewers were busy mending holes in jumpers, whilst the machinists were busy repairing seams on bike bags and pram covers.
Thank you to all who volunteered their time. The next Wanstead repair cafe will be on Saturday 11th July at Christ Church Hall 10.30-13.00, funded by ELWA, to whom we are grateful. We are always looking for more volunteers – especially machine sewers – so please get in touch if you have a repair skill or as a general helper:
wansteadrepaircafe@gmail.com.
Listening Cafe
Polls show that concern for the climate and ecological crisis is shared by a majority of UK citizens, yet feelings accompanying this can be difficult and complex, leading to division or silence and a sense of powerlessness.

WCA member Liz will be co-facilitating listening circles for people to speak and listen to feelings and concerns about our changing climate. These are on Saturday mornings, 25th July, 3rd October and 5th December.

To register interest please email liz.bodycote@googlemail.com.
Final bits
If you’ve a few minutes, please send a postcard to your MP to #StopRosebank. If you’ve a little longer, please try our in-depth survey. Thanks!

PS: one more, please sign our Planet over Profit petition for a new law on business, human rights and environment, which we want to hand in soon.

We are a friendly, local group who want to connect with others to raise awareness and to encourage and press Local and Central Government to address the Climate Emergency & at least meet the Paris Climate Agreement targets. Join us to plan and carry out actions to this effect. It would be great to hear your ideas! We also link up with other campaigns and larger organisations like Extinction Rebellion and Divestment groups for their campaigns & events. This blog will include details on current and past campaigns and actions, original articles and blog posts written by group members and much more...happy reading!
